Community Health Programs and Services

Partner Services are designed to help people diagnosed with STIs (including HIV) notify their sexual and/or needle sharing partner(s) of a potential exposure and also link their partner(s) to testing and treatment, if needed. Partner Services are free, confidential, and voluntary.

All laboratories and physicians are required to report cases of diagnosed HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis to the Allegheny County Health Department.

This data is used to identify trends in STD/HIV rates so that resources can be focused on areas of Allegheny County with high incidences of STD/HIV infections.

Additionally, the Syphilis Registry permanently retains all confirmed positive syphilis blood tests so that patients can be contacted for follow-up treatment and educated about ways to avoid possible reinfection.

The HIV/STD program provides risk reduction education through informational pamphlets, presentations, outreach, and an annual statistical summary report.
