The newest installation in Boyce Park expanded the existing 3Bs action park into a one-of-a-kind gravity sports complex, which includes a large bicycle pump track and seven custom climbing walls. This is the largest bike track in the Allegheny County Parks system, and offers varying degrees of difficulty and challenging terrain for bikers of all skill levels. The bouldering walls can be continuously reconfigured throughout the year to provide climbers with new routes and obstacles.
Pump Track
A pump track is a circuit of rollers and turns that can be ridden by riders “pumping” their bodies, generating momentum by up and down body movements. Typically used with bikes, the track can also accommodate scooters, skateboards, and even roller skaters.
Several pump tracks have been constructed thought the region in recent years, the Boyce Park facility is by far the biggest. The facility is a destination for locals and out-of-towners, from extreme outdoor enthusiasts to novices looking to try their hand at rock-climbing or their pedals at the pump track.

Project History
The original idea for the project came from a 2020 study completed by the Pennsylvania Environmental Council and Pittsburgh-based landscape architecture and planning firm Environmental Planning & Design. The report assessed opportunities to expose more people, especially those in underserved urban and suburban Pittsburgh-area neighborhoods, to outdoor sports like rock climbing, which has consistently been of the fastest-growing outdoor recreational activities, though it's one that many do not get exposure to. The location in Boyce Park, adjacent to the existing skate park and wave pool, was identified as a prime opportunity for such a facility.
The project was entirely designed and constructed by local businesses. The general contractor was Pittsburgh-based Tail Industries, Inc., and designed by Environmental Planning & Design and H.F. Lenz Engineering. The climbing walls were designed by Pittsburgh-based Boulder Solutions, LLC, and constructed by WALLTOPIA, an international climbing wall company that has its U.S. headquarters located in Pittsburgh. The playground was installed by AllPlay+. The total project cost was $ 4.7M.
