Two Baby Buffalo Born in the Last Week at South Park
(PITTSBURGH) - Since Friday, March 15, 2024, two baby buffalo were born in the herd at Allegheny County South Park. The County Park Director Andrew Baechle will be available for interviews at 3:00 pm today on site at the Game Preserve and media will be able to take pictures and videos of the babies (assuming the babies choose to make themselves available for photos). Media are free to use photos taken courtesy of Allegheny County.
The Parks staff have named the baby who was born on Friday, March 15, Riis, after the founder of the Allegheny County Parks system; and the baby who was born on Sunday, March 17, Roddey, after Jim Roddey, the first Allegheny County Executive who recently passed away.
The herd of buffalo has lived in South Park for nearly 100 years. Read more about the history of the South Park Game Preserve.
