County Executive Innamorato Celebrates Consumer Protection Week and Recognizes the Hard Work of the County Weights and Measures Division
(PITTSBURGH) - This week marks National Consumer Protection Week and to celebrate the occasion, County Executive Innamorato is spotlighting the hard work of the Allegheny County Weights and Measures Division.
The five-person Weights and Measures division completed over 19,000 inspections in 2023 across the county. The team inspects a variety of consumer facing products, including parking meters, gas pumps, deli scales, jewelry scales, luggage scales at the Pittsburgh International Airport, and critically, they price check items at retailers like grocery stores.
"The people of Allegheny County should know that our Weights and Measures team is looking out for them every day. These dedicated public servants have revealed credit card skimmers on gas pumps, identified broken scales at grocery stores, and zeroed in on discount grocery stores that scam vulnerable customers. For Consumer Protection Week I want to applaud the Weights and Measures Division and thank them for their steadfast work."
Frank Pollock, Chief Inspector and Division Manager of Weights and Measures, said: "I want the people of Allegheny County to know that we are out there every day, making 19,000 inspections a year, to make sure they are protected. When you pump gas or check out at the grocery store, it is important to have confidence that it is a fair transaction, that whatever the posted price is what you are actually paying. And our team works all year round to ensure that fairness."
