PITTSBURGH – The Department of Public Works announced today that the southbound lane of Fern Hollow Road at Pink House Road in Sewickley Heights will close starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024. The lane closure, which is expected to end in November 2024, is required for replacement of Little Sewickley Creek South Branch Bridge No. 1. The project also includes new pavement, pavement markings, signage, and guide rail.

Traffic at the lane closure will alternate using stop signs. Drivers can expect to experience delays in the area. Fern Hollow Road is used by an average of 855 drivers daily.

Little Sewickley Creek South Branch Bridge No. 1 has been closed since February 6, 2020, when Public Works engineers determined that it was unsafe for traffic. Prior to the closure, the bridge carried about 50 vehicles daily.

The bridge has a condition rating of 2 (poor) on a 0-9 scale based on National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) established by the Federal Highway Administration. For more information about bridge condition ratings, visit alleghenycounty.us/bridges.

During the project, Pink House Road traffic will continue to be detoured using Pony Hollow Road and Fern Hollow Road.

The $818,823 project will be done by A. Merante Contracting, Inc., of West Mifflin.
