Traveling Glass Recycling Returns to County Parks

(PITTSBURGH) - Allegheny County is again partnering with the Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC) to offer the Traveling Glass Recycling Bin Program in county parks. From February through November, the bin will be located in county parks to allow residents a resource to recycle glass.

The Traveling Glass Recycling Bin Program provides a free recycling option using a bin that rotates through locations in western Pennsylvania. This service is increasingly important as it reduces contamination with other recyclables and guarantees that all the glass collected is successfully recycled into new glass.

Individuals may only drop off glass bottles, jars, and jugs. All colors are accepted, no color sorting is required. Containers should be empty and rinsed, with lids and labels still on. Other types of glass, such as mirrors, ceramics, window glass, etc. are NOT permitted, nor are other recyclable materials such as plastic and paper. Bags and boxes used to deliver glass must be discarded off-site.

All drop off hours are 7:00 am - sundown. The county schedule follows:

  • February 10-15: Boyce Park (Ski Lodge Parking Lot, 901 Centerview Dr., Plum)
  • April 13-18: Settlers Cabin Park (Wave Pool Parking Lot, 635 Ridge Rd., Robinson)
  • May 18-23: Round Hill Park (Main Parking Lot, Hereford Dr. and Round Hill Rd., Elizabeth)
  • June 8-13- Deer Lakes Park (Veterans Shelter Parking Lot, Mahaffey Rd., Tarentum)
  • July 13-18: Hartwood Acres Park (Amphitheater Overflow Lot, 4100 Middle Rd., Allison Park)
  • August 10-15: Settlers Cabin Park (Wave Pool Parking Lot, 635 Ridge Rd., Robinson)
  • September 7-12: White Oak Park (Chestnut Parking Lot, 2632 McClintock Rd., White Oak)
  • October 5-10: North Park (Swimming Pool Parking Lot, South Ridge Dr., Allison Park)
  • November 9-14: South Park (VIP Parking Lot, Corrigan Dr. and 100 Acres Dr., Bethel Park)

PRC’s Traveling Glass Recycling Bin Program is sponsored by Owens-Illinois, Inc. and CAP Glass and is made possible through a partnership with Michael Brothers Hauling & Recycling. The collection sites are made possible through a partnership with Allegheny County's Parks and Sustainability departments.
