What You Can Do

You can get involved with emergency preparedness in many ways:

  • Be personally prepared.
  • Learn about your school, workplace and community emergency response plans.
  • Join the Citizen Corps and start programs in your community.
  • Partner with volunteer organizations, first responder and emergency management leadership, elected leadership, private sector and educational groups.
  • Help your neighbors and your community with public education, risk assessment, training and volunteer participation.
  • Mentor others.

Emergency Preparedness Organizations

Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) / Citizen Corps Council (CCC)
The LEPC/CCC meetings are open to the public and all interested parties are encouraged to attend. Join the Citizen Corps and start a program in your community.

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
Allegheny County Department of Emergency Services provides instruction and hands-on activities related to the elements of disaster preparedness, disaster fire suppression, light search and rescue, disaster psychology and team organization. Receive CERT training to be an emergency response team leader. You can also join a CERT team in your community.
