Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA)
The Allegheny County Bureau of Corrections has a zero-tolerance policy for sexual abuse.
The Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) of 2003 is a federal law that seeks to eliminate sexual assaults and sexual misconduct. This law applies to all federal and state prisons, jails, police lock-ups, private facilities, juvenile facilities and community correctional settings.
In compliance with the PREA law, the Allegheny County Jail provides the following annual reports reflecting statistics of allegations and the results of investigations into those allegations:

All survivors of sexual assault are referred, with their consent, to participate in services with Pittsburgh Action Against Rape (PAAR) during their period of incarceration.
